By Ginny's Recipe Collection
Nothing says summer like the smell of brats on the grill!
Servings: 4
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 5 fresh bratwurst
  • 1/2 cup apple juice
  • 1 vidalia onion sliced

Instructions

  • Place the brats side by side in a saucepan. Fill with enough water to cover the brats by at least one inch.
  • Add ½ cup of apple juice and 1 sliced onion. Don’t make the slices too thin or you will have trouble with them sticking to the brats when you remove them from the pot.
  • Turn on the heat to medium. Once the water starts boiling, cover and reduce the heat. Simmer the brats for 10 to 15 minutes.
  • In the meantime, preheat an outdoor grill to medium (450F)
  • When preheated, place the brats on the grill. Use large tongs to turn from time to time until well brown. About 10 minutes.
  • Serve hot with brat buns, ketchup, mustard and relish.  You can also serve with grilled onions. To grill onions, slice 3 onions into thick slices. Vidalia onions work well. Their high sugar content helps them caramelize better. Heat in a pan with a combination of butter and olive oil. Start with one tablespoon of butter and one tablespoon of olive oil. Add one more tablespoon of butter if needed. Season to taste.
